Moscow (Reuters)-Russia's Foreign Ministry denied reports Tuesday that Saudi Arabia newspaper quoted the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov said that Syria's President Bashar al-Assad is ready to step down, the State News Agency RIA said.

"Mikhail Bogdanov does not give interviews to the Saudi newspaper Al-Watan," RIA quoted unnamed sources in the Foreign Ministry.

Bogdanov said, not giving interviews to newspapers it over the phone or in person.

Watan, saying talks with Bogdanov in a phone interview, reported he said that Assad has agreed to resign, but did not give further details.

The newspaper also reported that Bogdanov says Bashar's brother Maher al-Assad lost his leg during the bomb attacks in Damascus which killed a senior security officer and her "fight to survive".

The newspaper did not mention when the interview took place and the only direct quote that was attributed to the Bogdanov that was in the subject of Russia's position on the crisis.

Russia's Foreign Ministry refused to comment directly to reuters, requesting a written petition.

Russia has been protecting Bashar from pressure by joining with China to block three UN Security Council resolution which supported the West aims to put an end to 17 months of bloodshed, including one last month that the Government will threaten Syria with sanctions.

Russia says it does not support Bashar and will take it back from the transition of power in politics which is decided by the people of Syria, but his resignation should not be with the prerequisites and he does not have to be encouraged by external forces, including the Security Council.
